This Small Blue Dot, by Zeno Sworder.

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

This book has been creating quite a stir across the Bookstagram community and with good reason. The engaging young narrator of this picture book introduces her new sibling to the wonders of the world around her. These wonders encompass both broader observations of the world, in relation to the planets and stars and nature, and also more intimate reflections, with the narrator sharing her favourite desserts and creative activities.

The illustrations are exquisite, with the young girl and her baby sibling rendered in soft black and white, contrasting with the exuberant colour and movement of the world around them.

The rich imagination of the child is explored both through the vivid colour of the illustrations and the thoughtful reflections the narrator shares with her new sibling.

This book provides to its young audience a gentle introduction to the importance of caring for our environment, embracing our own and each others differences, and acknowledging our ancestors. Overall, this beautifully designed book is a joyful celebration of diversity, multiculturalism, and hope for the future of our planet.
